Our Team
Dr. Carly Kanipe, DVM
FOUNDER
This heart of gold graduated from the Iowa State University Vet College with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2012, and is currently working with the USDA’s bovine tuberculosis research department while completing a PhD in Immunology. Clearly the brains of the group! With passion, focus, and a love of all things growing, Carly truly embodies the terrier spirit “of the earth”.

Cal, with too many peppers
Cal Rebhuhn
co founder and head of r&d
An Iowa native and the son of farmers, Cal was raised with a healthy respect for living things, soil, and those that work with them. Building a thriving permaculture environment is a dream a long time in the making, and every day Cal feels lucky to be Carly’s partner on their many adventures.
Atticus the Wonder Dog
(in memoriam)
co founder, sheriff, and community liaison
Atticus the Wonder Dog was the inspiration for this project and the glue that holds our organization together. Carly’s longtime companion, Atticus is known to many in Ames as brave, yet humble; strong, yet kind; protective, but peaceful. He is the embodiment of Terrier Tough Farm, as seen through our logo; tough means the tenacity, grit, and dogged perseverance of a terrier, but also the capacity to be generous, kind, and caring to those around you.
On the farm, Atticus is ever the stalwart sheriff, keeping the peace and ensuring the safety of those in his care. In the community at large, he is the face of Terrier Tough Farm and the most gentlemanly dog you’ll ever meet. If you see us out, don’t hesitate to say hi!
